HOW DO I STICK WITH AN EXERCISE ROUTINE?

Do you want to get healthier but can’t seem to make a fitness routine stick? Are you making lots of excuses instead of exercising? Studio SWEAT onDemand Founder Cat Kom is here with Trainer Brian to bust through the excuses with two things you need to know that just might change your life for the better.

Excuse #1: I don’t like to exercise.

Brian once taught a bootcamp at a work function. Some attendees were fitness regulars, but some had been dragged there by colleagues. Brian noticed one woman grumbling before class, so he said to her, “Hey, you’re already here, and I doubt you’ll leave. So let’s just see how it goes and let’s talk at the end.” After class, Brian talked to her again and explained that while bootcamp may not be her favorite activity, it doesn’t mean she doesn’t like exercise.

Tip #1: Find the type of fitness program that works for you and your body.

Some months later, Brian ran into the same colleague. She had realized that while she did like the bootcamp, she also liked cardio. She found some HIIT classes she enjoyed and with a consistent workout routine, had lost 40 pounds.

It may take trying lots of workout types before you find the “one.” Try Pilates, yoga, Spinning, classes, and solo workouts, indoor and outdoor. Find something that you will enjoy.

Excuse #2: I don’t have time to exercise. OR I am too tired at “x,y,z” time to work out.

Brian talked to a general manager of a store who shared that he was always too tired to exercise after a long day at work. It was hard for him to get motivated in the evenings.

You’ll probably find fitness articles claiming morning is the best time for a workout. Or evening.

Tip #2: The best time for you to exercise is the time that works for you consistently.

With the store manager, Brian suggested trying a morning routine, or grabbing a short class during a lunch break. You don’t have to exercise at the same time every day, but find a time that works for you.

You deserve to have your life changed, and it’s really so simple to stick to a routine when you use these tips.
