Wake up and I am out of bed right away. Then, I have my daily greens and collagen.
Out for a 30-minute walk around my neighborhood. No dog, no music – just enjoying the quiet of the day.
Once I’m back from my walk, I enjoy one cup of coffee, check my email, read one chapter from my book, shower and get ready for my day.
At around 7:00 AM, I have my breakfast. Like the rest of my meals, my breakfasts are pretty simple. But they depend on my day and how quickly I need to be out of the house:
1st option: Protein shake made with unsweetened almond milk, 1 cup spinach, and 1 cup blueberries.
2nd option: Two eggs scrambled with 1 cup spinach and some cherry tomatoes. Then a combo of 1 cup blueberries and strawberries.
3rd option: Coffee with my protein powder, 1 waffle with almond butter and a kiwi with the skin on. Trust me on this one – try it!
Around this time, I often kick off my personal training sessions and classes. I love spending that one-on-one time with someone, helping them to achieve their goals and getting to know them. I get to know their likes, dislikes, injuries, plus their strengths & weaknesses. I learn about their families (even if I don’t always meet them), their kids, their jobs…all of that fun stuff. I love that!!! It is not just a “workout” but it’s getting to know what makes that person thrive.
As for my workouts, they’re very driven by the clients and the clients’ goals. We discuss their objectives early and often. It can be weight loss, building muscle or just improving their general health/functional fitness. Either way, they’re written in a very personalized way.
Not one workout always works for another person, but I love that because it challenges me as a person. When someone is injured, I have to think of ways to still work them, not cause them pain, while working around the injury. Training is always changing based on their needs, and I like that it keeps me on my toes!
I think what makes me a good personal trainer is that I genuinely care about the person I’m working with. You’re not just a client I’m trying to acquire to build my numbers or my income. I truly care about people and making them better, stronger and happier with themselves!
Then I head out to Studio SWEAT. Depending on the day, some days I go later and others I go earlier. I am the manager at our San Diego studio, so that means I’m in studio from about 8AM to 1PM most days. On the way there (and pretty much always) I’m always listening to music to prepare for my classes, and just because I love it. I love when my kids, husband or whoever gives me music suggestions. But, next to my computer I have a running list of songs along with the RPMs of the song. I build my playlists off that and then fit the drills into what the song is. I think that’s a bit backwards and that’s definitely not how I built a class when I first started teaching! But, that’s what works for me right now. After I’d built the class music-wise, I time the class out and then add in the sculpting/floor work.
Snack time! Between classes, training, helping clients, ordering supplies, etc. I take care of me! My morning snacks typically consist of 12 almonds, and my PM snack usually consists of 12 cashews and iced protein coffee.
Lunch time! Since I make them in bulk it’s normally: ground turkey, cauliflower rice with a bell pepper, and an air-fryer sweet potato. It’s all measured out in proper portions.
I love to make my lunches for the week because it saves me time and I don’t have to think about what to eat and I enjoy having healthy lunches where I know exactly what’s in them.
Chill-out time! I am not the best when it comes to relaxing! I don’t take naps because each time I lay down, I begin to think of everything I should be doing instead of napping. And, if I ever manage to take a nap, I usually wake up feeling like I’m dragging, so it’s just not worth it to me!
Typically, I just get up and start again. But, I would say my favorite way to relax is hanging out with my family and watching a fun show. That’s almost as good as a nap for me!
Around this time, I’m usually looking at the next day and figuring out what I need to do. Who do I need to write workouts for? What class will I teach? I love preparing the day before because I don’t like to stress about it.
Making dinner for the family! I always plan our menu on Sundays for the whole week. I also hit the grocery store up on Sundays so that I have everything for the week because I don’t have time to go back. I always ask my family what they want that week and try to honor each person’s request.
Dinner time before I either head in to teach an evening class, or more often before I head out for kids’ sports or activities.
I am usually back home, and then I chill out for a bit by watching some fun shows.
Nighttime routine starts. I wash my face, brush my teeth and then I am in bed by 10 PM and usually asleep within minutes! My family tucks me into bed and my kids usually make fun of me because they put me to bed these days!
Overall, I think I just try to get as much done in my day as I can with the time that I am allotted. I really try to balance my work life with my family life. They are a big priority, and when I’m home my focus is on them!
